The Use of Strattice™ ADM in Plastic Surgery

Posted May 24, 2016 in Breast Augmentation Revision, Breast Lifts, Breast Reconstruction, Plastic Surgery News, Strattice™ ADM

When soft tissue is weak, tissue regeneration may not occur to the extent desired after surgery. To combat this and facilitate greater success in surgical results, Dr. Mark Chin uses the Strattice™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix. Strattice™ is an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) that can support tissue regeneration, and it is particularly useful in plastic surgery breast procedures.

What Is the Strattice™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix?

The Strattice™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix is an acellular dermal matrix created from porcine skin. Essentially, Strattice™ is a surgical mesh that supports the soft tissue, serving as a scaffold and becoming incorporated into the adjacent tissues. Strattice™ ADM is put through processing and stabilizing to preserve it while removing the proteins associated with the risk of rejection. This device can assist with cell repopulation, rapid revascularization, and white cell migration to reduce the risk of infection and support soft tissues during regeneration. Historically, ADMs like Strattice™ have been used in burn patients, hernia repair, orthopedics, primary and secondary breast reconstruction, and in cosmetic breast surgeries for over a decade.

How Does Strattice™ Help in Plastic Surgery?

In plastic surgery, procedures such as breast reconstruction, breast lifts, and breast augmentation revisions are highly dependent on successful tissue regeneration. Particularly where tissues are inelastic, weak, and damaged due to defects or tissue breakage, the additional support provided by the Strattice™ helps to facilitate the desired surgical outcome. The Strattice™ ADM reinforces the soft tissues to help repair damage and provide structure. With the support of Strattice™, your body will regenerate its own tissue into the Strattice™ mesh, and the Strattice™ will incorporate into your body. Strattice™ is particularly useful in supporting tissue regeneration to rebuild the breast pocket for breast implant revision to correct symmastia, bottoming out, or folding. In addition, Strattice™ has been proven effective in supporting breast implants in augmentation mastopexy (breast lift with implants) and in breast reconstruction with implants. Strattice™ ADM helps provide lower pole support to fortify the breasts against capsular contracture, implant rippling, and implant shifting.

Dr. Chin uses Strattice™ ADM to support soft tissue regeneration where necessary so that the desired results can be achieved after surgery.
