3 Minute Read:
Plastic surgery has long had a reputation for being narcissistic and something that only vain people choose to undergo.
However, is that truly the case?
What Are Plastic Surgery Trends Saying?
Plastic surgery statistics have increased steadily over the recent decade and are continuing to grow. Plastic surgery procedures, and the concept as a whole, are now more mainstream and accepted than ever. Celebrities have become more vocal and transparent when they get surgeries, as they want to be honest about how they achieved or maintain their looks.
Additionally, with the rise of new plastic surgery techniques (including the improvement of nonsurgical technologies), the price of many procedures have gone down, making it more accessible to the average person.
Plastic surgery used to be seen as something only narcissistic people opted for. However, as more and more people understand the benefits of plastic surgery, it is becoming more commonplace and normalized.
What Are the Benefits of Plastic Surgery
Women and men turn to plastic surgery for various reasons—good and bad. While there are those particular individuals who turn to these procedures for unrealistic or even unhealthy goals, the vast majority of people do so to simply feel better about themselves, which allows them to share their personalities and presences much more fully with those around them.
There are several benefits of plastic surgery.
Boosting Your Self-Esteem
Let’s say you were born with a feature you hated and had no control over, such as having a large or crooked nose. This could impact your self-esteem to the point that you struggle to be confident, stand up for yourself, date, and more. Plastic surgery can fix bodily features that often produce crippling feelings of insecurity.
Maintaining Natural, Youthful Results
There is a common misconception that plastic surgery produces fake-looking results. In the late 90s and early 2000s, for example, the trend of breast augmentations was to elect oversized implants (think Pamela Anderson). You could often spot someone who had a “boob job” at that time because their breasts were enormous and mismatched for their frame.
This is no longer the case.
While breast augmentation remains the most popular procedure in the U.S., most doctors and patients opt for more natural results that suit the patient’s natural frame. This produces a more appealing and natural final result.
Postponing Visible Signs of Aging
All of us age; however, the thriving skincare industry clearly demonstrates that we’re not ready to accept the process as it is. Many cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift or an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), can postpone visible signs of aging. These procedures are often quick and offer long-term results.
Reducing or Eliminating Skin Laxity
Many things can damage or reduce skin elasticity, such as pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or natural aging. For some even, significant weight loss leaves them with inches of loose, hanging skin that interferes with day-to-day activities and can potentially wreak emotional havoc on their confidence to bare their figures in social or intimate situations.
