How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
Posted December 10, 2025 in Liposuction

Over 200,000 liposuction procedures are performed every year—this body-sculpting technique is favored for its ability to slim and shape almost any area of the body, with long-lasting results and minimal downtime. One of the most common questions patients want answered is how much this procedure costs. This blog will break down the factors that affect liposuction pricing, including body area, technique, and more, so you can walk into your consultation feeling informed.

How Much Is Liposuction?
Nationwide, the average cost of liposuction can range from $4,000 to $15,000 or more. Why such a big range? Many factors influence the final price of a given plastic surgery procedure, including geographic location and the extent of the procedure.
For liposuction in particular, the extent of surgery can vary significantly by the body area treated, the amount of fat removed, and the selected liposuction technique.
While it’s helpful to educate yourself on the factors that influence the cost of plastic surgery, it’s never advised to choose a surgeon based solely on price. As we’ll discuss below, surgeons with greater skill and expertise often command higher fees, but the payoff is a safer procedure and, usually, superior results.
Liposuction Cost by Treatment Area
The area of the body being treated is one of the main determinants of the final cost of a liposuction procedure. Excluding additional fees, estimated liposuction costs based on treatment areas might look like the following:
- Neck or under the chin: $2,500 to $5,000
- Upper arms: $3,000 to $5,500
- Abdomen: $4,000 to 8,000
- Thighs: $4,000 to $7,000
- Buttocks: $3,500 to $6,000
Of course, costs will vary if multiple areas of the body are treated, or if liposuction is combined with other procedures, like a tummy tuck.
Liposuction Cost by Technique
The liposuction technique selected for your procedure affects the cost. More advanced or more complex methods require more expensive equipment, greater surgical skill, and more time. They may also incur increased facility fees and anesthesia costs.
Tumescent Liposuction
This technique uses a medicated fluid to control bleeding, break up fat, and make the surgical process smoother.
Cost: $2,000 to $11,000 on average
Laser-Assisted Liposuction (Smartlipo®)
This technique uses a laser to liquefy fat before it’s suctioned out, and also helps to tighten the skin.
Cost: $4,000 to $10,000 on average
Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
A vibrating cannula is used to break up stubborn fat deposits and remove them more efficiently, enabling greater precision and control.
Cost: $2,000 to $8,000 on average
At your consultation, you and your surgeon will determine which technique will best suit your goals and needs, and this will be factored into your price quote.
What Affects the Cost of Liposuction?
The total cost of a liposuction procedure depends on a number of factors:
Surgeon’s Fee: Board-certified plastic surgeons with specialized training and years of experience performing liposuction tend to charge more than general surgeons, “cosmetic” surgeons, or less-experienced surgeons.
Geographic location: Plastic surgery generally costs more in major metropolitan areas than in more rural regions. This is due to the cost of living, demand for plastic surgery, and competition among plastic surgeons.
Anesthesia: The use of general anesthesia or local anesthesia is added to the final price, as is the fee for the anesthesiologist who administers this medication and monitors the patient during the procedure. Some liposuction techniques, such as tumescent liposuction, use numbing agents and require minimal or no anesthesia.
Facility Fees: This covers equipment and supplies, surgical staff, and other overhead costs.
Pre- and Postoperative Fees: These cover the consultation, compression garments, prescription medications, and follow-up visits.
